1955 |
24th November: The Government of Bombay announced establishment of a non-official council under the name of "The Council of Industrial Helath, Hygiene and Safety". |
28th November: The council was formally inaugurated by the late Shri. Shantilal H Shah, the then Labour Minister, Government of Bombay. Thus, Maharashtra took the lead and became the pioneer in our country to set-up a non-official voluntary organization to work in the field of Accident Prevention. | |
1958 |
December: The name of the Council was later changed to "The Council of Industrial Safety". The council received Grant-In-Aid for the first two years from the Government of Bombay, but thereafter it became completely seif-supporting. |

3rd April: The Council was the first organization in the Country to start "Diploma Course for training and development of Safety Officers" |

5th August: The Maharashtra Chapter was registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. |

19th September: The Maharashtra Chapter was registered as a Public Trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1960. |

November: Extension of Industrial Safety activities in Construction Industry |
2004 |
The Maharashtra Chapter set up Action Centres in the state namely Mahad Action Centre, KAMA Action Centre & Marathwada Action Centre. |
The Maharashtra Chapter started organizing the Maharashtra Safety Slogan Competition | |
2005 |
25th & 26th November: The Chapter organized Conference on the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebration |
2009 |
January: The Chapter published its first quarterly bulletin titled “Mahasuraksha Patrika” giving information on OSH activities carried out by Chapter and its Action Centres. |

The Chapter started organizing training programmes on Road Safety for industries, schools, colleges, offices and general public |

May: The Chapter started organizing the Three Level Competition on Safety jointly with Directorate of Industrial Safety & Health, Govt. of Maharashtra. |
October: The Chapter was awarded the international project titled “Advocacy of Road Safety in Industries” by the Global Road Safety Partnership, Geneva, Switzerland. | |
2019 |
The Chapter formed “Task Force on Road Safety” comprising of representatives from Directorate of Industrial Safety & Health, Govt. of Maharashtra, industries, RTO, Highway Traffic Police, Mumbai Traffic Police. |
